WWF is organising a workshop on low-cost data collection and MCS (Monitoring Control and Surveillance) tools for better management of small-scale fisheries in the South West Indian Ocean from 15-17 November 2022, in Cape Town.

During the three-day workshop, representatives from several SWIO and SADC will discuss the key opportunities for potential adoption of emerging technologies to improve the poor state of data in small scale fisheries and application of low-cost monitoring control and surveillance tools in the region.

It is expected that by the end of the workshop the participants will be able to identify the key national data collection challenges and needs for a robust MCS system, as well as the types of low-cost data collection technologies that may be replicated across the region.
